Valeria Araujo – WRITER’s Portfolio
Valeria Araujo has an English M.A. from Southern Connecticut State University (SCSU). Her studies focused on Latinx literature and research into Caribbean history, more specifically into the literary/historical depictions of Hispaniola and the cultural evolution of the island through Colonialism and beyond. She obtained her English B.A. also from SCSU with a concentration in creative writing and journalism in the Fall of 2022. During her undergrad, she served as the Editor-in-Chief of the SPJ award-winning student publication, Crescent Magazine, and had been published in SCSU’s Folio Literary Magazine twice. She is a former Gwen Ifill Investigative News Intern. During her time at NPR’s CT Public newsroom she published an investigation into the lack of faculty diversity in CT higher education.
Currently, she is teaching at St. Augustine’s Academy in Bridgeport, CT. She is also writing a novel based on her hometown of Milford, Connecticut. She hopes to one day pursue a PhD in Latinx and Caribbean studies.
